Salena Braun began studying ballet at Alabama Dance Academy in Birmingham, Alabama. While in Alabama, Salena had opportunities to perform in the US in the Nutcracker on Broadway and internationally at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. While earning her B.A. in dance from Bard College, she made the stylistic transition to Modern, studying Limón, Dunham, Cunningham and postmodern techniques with Maria Simpson, Susan Osberg, Jean Churchill, Lenore Latimer, Peggy Florin, Garry Reigenborn, Leslie Boyce, and Aileen Passloff. While in college, she also studied at the Bates Dance Festival with teachers such as Kathleen Hermesdorf, Liz Lerman, and Dianne McIntyre. At Bard, Salena performed in numerous student and faculty pieces, as well as choreographing seven pieces of her own, including Unfolding of the Cosmos, and Goal of a Glass Flower. Since moving to Philadelphia in June 2009, Salena has danced with Dangerous and Movin’ Dance Company, PlasmaDanceTheater, Stephen Welsh/SWERVE, Hokum Arts, Wabi Sabi Dance, and RenZoku DanceWorks .She is presenting her choreography to Philadelphia for the first time this year in the Philly Fringe’s show “Waterways.”
